Ceramic coating is only as good as the surface it bonds to. Jax Wax Shield Prep is the critical step between paint correction and applying Shield Ceramic Coating — a panel wipe that removes any remaining polish oils, wax residue, and surface contamination so the coating can form the strongest possible molecular bond with your paint.
Skip this step and your ceramic coating won't bond properly, won't last as long, and won't perform at its best. Use Shield Prep correctly and you're setting up your coating for maximum durability, hydrophobic performance, and gloss. It's a simple step that makes a significant difference in the final result.
Why It Matters
- Maximizes ceramic coating bond strength — removes polish oils, silicones, and residues that prevent proper adhesion
- Ensures "like new" paint condition — the surface must be perfectly clean before coating for optimal results
- Panel-by-panel application — ensures each section is freshly prepped immediately before coating is applied
- Simple and fast — spray on, wipe off with a clean microfiber towel, done
The Correct Application Order
- Complete any necessary paint correction to remove swirls, scratches, and imperfections
- Wash the entire vehicle using Jax Wax Cannon Soap or Wash and Wax
- Use a clay bar to remove any remaining surface contamination
- Spray Shield Prep onto one panel at a time
- Wipe off completely with a clean microfiber towel until the surface is dry
- Apply Jax Wax Shield Ceramic Coating immediately to that panel before moving to the next
Pro tip: Work in a clean, dust-free environment — ideally a garage. Once Shield Prep is applied and wiped off, apply the ceramic coating to that panel right away. Don't let the surface sit exposed for long before coating.
